The Mad House Play and Party World - Reading

soft play for kids

This is the only children's adventure area we've found in the Thames Valley where you can get more for veggies and vegans than chips and beans. And these places never let you bring your own food, so this place is your solution, as kids always get hungry before you can drag them away!

On top of that the Mad House actually has daylight flooding in, so is relatively light and airy, though no doubt it gets pretty stuffy when packed at weekends. The play areas are really well thought out, fun and clean. Best for 1-8 year olds, though they say up to 10. If you have kids of several ages, you'll be able to keep an eye on them in each of the sections from the cafe area, unless you are being dragged around with them of course (which is quite fun).

They actually reckon to do healthy food. We'll leave you to judge that, but they are certainly trying much harder than most.

The pasta is egg-free, and you can have it with tomato & basil & oregano, or mediterranean vegetables. There are both Indian and Thai vegetable curry options, which would be worth asking how veggie/vegan they are. Check out the salad bar too - though my toddler didn't want me to spend much time looking rather than playing so I can't report on that yet. There are jacket potatoes, and the ubiquitous chips and beans. I think they have a vegetable chilli for their quesedilla, though you'd need to check the ingredients, and other items. It might be worth bringing them some melting Cheezly to show what's possible for dairy free kids.

There are comfortable sofas, but the best place for breast-feeding is in the ball pool in the toddler section - being relatively private and irresistably comfortable.

Party sessions are also possible, where you have your own meal room. The "toy room" one is the nicest party room because it has windows. They have chefs for the party food who can deal with all kinds of special diets with good notice, and they pride themselves on this. The staff member showing me round wasn't even fazed when I said "vegan".

Is there a place that deserves being listed which we've missed? Why not suggest it?
